Nintendo’s E3 Direct was full of exciting announcements for Nintendo Switch owners, and one of those announcements that kicked off the presentation was the next installment in the Luigi’s Mansion series, the appropriately titled Luigi’s Mansion 3.

Introduced by Nintendo of America’s new CEO, Doug Bowser, Luigi’s Manson 3 is set in a rather impressive looking hotel while Mario and company, Luigi included of course, decide to take a little vacation. To no one’s surprise, the hotel turns out to be haunted by more than a few of it’s former guests. Let’s hope Luigi doesn’t have a drinking problem and that ax from Super Mario Bros. isn’t lying around somewhere. All work and no play makes Luigi a dull boy.

Luigi will be aided in his new ghost hunting adventure by his brand new Poltergust G-00, which comes equip with some new abilities: Like the Slam function, allowing Luigi to damage the ghosts he’s trying to attack but sucking them in and bashing them against objects and even surrounding ghosts, as well as the Suction Shot, which deploys a plunger to objects and allows Luigi to pull on and destroy said objects in his way, the Burst function, which releases air from under Luigi allowing him to jump in the air as well as repelling near by ghosts, should they gang up on him, and finally the “Gooigi” function lets Luigi to make a gooey clone of himself to help fight ghosts as well as reach obstacles Luigi himself may not be able to. Gooigi is vulnerable to water however, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Like previous games, Luigi’s Manson 3 does seem to be a primarily single player experience but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a multiplayer component. For one, when Luigi makes use of the previously mentioned Gooigi function, a second player can grab the other Joycon and control him. In addition to that though, there is also a gameplay mode called The ScareScraper, which allows up to eight players (Four Luigi’s and their Gooigi counterparts) to play in co-op as they hunt ghosts and save lost Toads both locally and online.

So what do you think? Are you looking forward to next installment in Luigi’s ghost hunting adventures? If so you won’t have to wait too long, as Luigi’s Mansion 3 is planned for release later this year on the Nintendo Switch.
